3rd Sheffield Chess International

The 3rd Sheffield Chess International will take place on November 28th-30th.

£1,750 in prizes. This event will be FIDE-rated and ECF-rated.

1st – £750
2nd – £250
3rd – £150

Best 1900-2099 £150
Best 1700-1899 £150
Best 1500-1699 £150
Best U1500 £150

Rules for 1st/2nd/3rd prizes:
1. Prizes guaranteed based upon 60 total entrants; reduced pro-rata if fewer.
2. Cash prizes shared if same number of game points.
3. A player eligible for a rating prize will be given that prize if its value is greater than that of the share of the main prize they would otherwise have won. In event of the prizes having equal value, the player will be given the main prize.

Rules for rating prizes:
1. FIDE Standard ratings take priority over ECF Standard ratings
2. Players with no FIDE or ECF Standardplay ratings may either:
a) Provide evidence of playing strength to determine rating section, or
b) Be considered in the 1900-2099 category
3. In the event of a tie, the lower-rated player of those tied will win the rating prize.
4. If fewer than 8 entries in any category, rating prizes will be reduced pro-rata.

Entry limit: c.70 players.

What level of ECF membership do I need? Gold.

What is the time control? 1 hour 50 minutes per player plus a 10-second increment from move 1

Why the late Saturday start? This is to minimise external noise due to our venue constraints.

Round 1 (Friday): 7pm-11pm

Round 2 (Saturday): 12pm-4pm

Round 3 (Saturday): 4.30pm-8.30pm*

Round 4 (Sunday): 11.00am-3.00pm

Round 5 (Sunday): 3.30pm-7.30pm*

* – Players will be permitted at least a 30-minute break between rounds. Therefore, in Round 3 and Round 5, some individual games may start a few minutes late in the event of any long games (60+ moves, all time used)

Prizes will be paid out, in cash or by bank transfer, as soon as possible after the event.
